In addition to its educational and research activities, Semmelweis University is also one of the largest medical institutions in Hungary: its clinics and institutes providing healthcare services treat more than two and a half million cases annually. The more than forty organizational units covering almost the entire spectrum of care are located in four main clinical blocks (Internal Clinical Block, External Clinical Block, Városmajor Clinical Block, Szent Rókus Clinical Block).

Semmelweis University is one of the largest patient care institutions in the country. In 2023, the university treated more than 170 thousand cases of 96.7 thousand inpatients and 2.66 million cases of 425.5 thousand outpatients. There are currently 2,057 active and 285 chronic inpatient beds.

Semmelweis University carries out its patient care activities in accordance with the highest level of progressivity, in many areas it is the so-called top care, that is, the patients in the most serious condition are admitted here. The establishment of the correct diagnosis is assisted by numerous world-class instruments, and in several fields (for example, in the case of some organ transplants) certain interventions are only available here.

Patient care at the university is an inseparable part of the medical and health science education, which is highly recognized both domestically and internationally.

The units performing curative work are directly under the management of the Clinical Center.
